Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this comprehensive PALS course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of respiratory failure and shock & know how to intervene to prevent cardio-pulmonary arrest.
- Know the principles of pediatric fluid resuscitation and emergency medications for the child in shock.
- Review the management of delivery of the newborn, potential problems and priorities in neonatal resuscitation.
- Recognize the indications for endotracheal intubation and perform safe management of child/infant in respiratory failure.
- Perform BLS sequences in children and infants.
- Recognize the resuscitation needs of the pediatric trauma patient & discuss mechanism of injury.
- Learn principles of c-spine immobilization and demonstrate c-spine precautions.
- Recognize and safely manage hemodynamically stable & unstable dysrhythmias in the pediatric population.

Prerequisites:
Renewal participants must have a PALS card that is current.
The American Heart Association no longer offers a grace period to instructors or providers, except in the case of serious illness.
Notice: BLS is no longer required in order to take PALS, but is highly recommended because demonstration of current BLS sequences on infants and pediatric patients is required to successfully complete this course. You will be expected to know sequences for both CPR and Foreign Body Removal.

Registration & Fees:
Registration for providers will begin at 7:30 on November 4.
Registration deadline is October 29th.
Registration fee includes tuition and course handouts.
Coffee and tea will be provided at registration. Lunch will be provided.
The 2004 textbook is necessary for the course. Textbook is available for purchase.
Cancellation Policy: Tuition fees, less a processing fee of $50.00, will be refunded if written notice of cancellation is received in advance.
