Make Osteoporosis Matter

About 28 million people are at risk for  osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a “silent” condition because many Americans are unaware that their bone health is in    jeopardy. Osteoporosis literally means “porous bone”. If left untreated, osteoporosis can progress without pain until a bone breaks.

   If your doctor has told you that you have osteoporosis, a combination of ongoing prescription treatment, nutritional       supplements, and lifestyle changes       including diet and exercise, can provide the strength your bones need to resist       fracture as you age.

Osteoporosis Class Qualifications:

1.  Referral from your physician

2. Bone mineral density (BMD) test

3. Have not had a fracture in the past 

     eight weeks.

4. Ambulatory

5. History of fractures including the wrist, rib, hip or compression.

6. Postural changes, history of falls or difficulty walking.

Class Goals:

1. Improve balance.

2. Improve posture.

3. Increase muscle strength and flexibility.

4. Learn safe body mechanics and exercise guidelines.

5. Increase tolerance of daily activities, hobbies and recreation
